Six stations, one journey

The donation, digital step by step.

Our booth is laid out as a journey. Each station stands for one step of a blood donation. The NEXUS donor app accompanies donors from the appointment to their own values, the LIS is the backbone behind it.

  1. 01 NEXUS Spende App + NEXUS Terminvergabe

    Book an appointment

Donors book in four steps: donation type, location, slot, contact details. In the app or as a guest without an account.

  2. 02 NEXUS Spende App + NEXUS DBM

    Fill in the questionnaire

The digital donor questionnaire is completed at home and handed over at the desk via QR code. No network crossing, no paper.

  3. 03 NEXUS Spende App + NEXUS Spendeleitsystem

    Arrive and check in

Check-in at the terminal with donor number or scan, matched against appointment and questionnaire, then called to donate.

  4. 04 NEXUS Spende App + NEXUS Terminvergabe

    Plan the donation day

Beds, opening hours and donation types per site in the weekly plan, occupancy and utilisation live. The donor app's appointment module runs the day.

  5. 05 NEXUS Spende App + NEXUS LIS

    In the laboratory

The LIS analyses and releases. Lab values, blood group and usage flow back into the donor's app.

  6. 06 NEXUS Spende App + NEXUS LIS

    Check it in the app

Blood group, lab values, donation history and the message when a donation was used. Everything lands in the donor's app.

How the data flows

From the LIS to the smartphone.

The donor app backend runs per hospital as its own installation in the hospital's DMZ, maintained by NEXUS. Lab values only leave the hospital encrypted and only towards the donor.

Hospital network Hospital DMZ Donor side LIS SFTP Import watcher Push notifications Health data, pseudonymised Appointments Donor app backend API, import, notifications, appointments Database Admin portal HTTPS · TLS Donor app iOS and Android Booking widget

Hospital network

The LIS exports.

  • Key-based SFTP
  • Outbound only
  • Scheduled

Released donations, lab values and blood group leave the LIS as a file. The app never accesses the LIS.

Hospital DMZ

One installation per hospital.

  • One installation per hospital
  • Containers
  • Data stays with the hospital

Import watcher, backend, database and appointment service run on a server in the hospital's DMZ. NEXUS operates and maintains.

Donor side

Encrypted to the donor.

  • HTTPS · TLS
  • No data on the device
  • Push with deep link

The app loads blood group, values and appointments fresh from the backend on every sign-in, nothing of it stays stored on the device. The push notification names the event, such as new values or donation used, and deep-links to the right place in the app.

Appointment booking in motion

The donation. Digital. Start to finish.
